Spring Term Topics

For the second half of the Spring Term the children will be reading and sharing traditional fairy tale stories. They will look at the Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Gingerbread Man, The Elves and the Shoemaker, Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. In addition, the children will celebrate World Book Day, Mothering Sunday and Easter

World Book Day

The children who attend Bear Hugs Nursery on a Thursday are encouraged to celebrate World Book day on Thursday 3rd March, by wearing a costume to represent a character from their favourite book on that day.

Choking hazards

Children can easily and quickly choke on food. To prevent this happening we ask if you put sausages, grapes, baby tomatoes, etc in your child’s lunch box, that can lodge in a child’s throat, you cut them into four pieces lengthways. In addition, please do not leave any food/sweets in your child’s personal bag, or bring you child into nursery eating, as your child could eat them without adult supervision.

Change of Shoes

Regardless of the weather, it is important for all children to have two pairs of shoes/boots for the inside and outside areas of the setting. It is recommended velcrose plimsolls for the inside area and boots or sturdy velcrose shoes for the outside area. This stops the wet and mud being transferred from the outside onto the indoor resources. In addition, the children are able to practice their independence in self-dressing and preparing for school-readiness.

No Mobile Phones

We would like to remind all parents/guardians that you are not allowed to use mobile phones inside the nursery, as part of safeguarding the nursery children. In addition, please refrain from using your phone when picking up your child, as it is always better for you to give your full attention to your child as you leave and collect them from the nursery.

Infectious Illness

If your child has an infectious illness, such as sickness or diarrhoea, your child should remain at home until 48 hours after the last bout of illness. Likewise, children on antibiotics must not return to the nursery for the first 48 hours, in case of an allergic reaction to the antibiotics

COVID-19 Symptoms

If your child has COVID-19 symptoms they should not attend the nursery. The symptoms of COVID-19 can be a new and persistent cough, high temperature (above 37.8’C), a loss or changed sense of smell or taste (anosmia). Or flu-like symptoms, such as a runny nose or a sore throat. If your child has any of these symptoms they should take a LFT test and must self-isolate if positive for 10 days, which can be reduced to 6 days if they have two negative LFT on day 5 and a second 24 hours later. If day 5 and day 6 tests are negative they can return to the nursery on day 6. If your child is seriously ill call 999 or NHS 111 (https:/ 111.nhs.uk/covid-19/)

Places for siblings

If your child has a younger sibling that is requiring a space at Bear Hugs Nursery, please speak to Fiona so they can be put onto the waiting list to reserve a place for them.

30 Hours Free Entitlement

Your child, from the term after they turn 3 years, could be eligible for 30 hours free childcare. Bear Hugs Nursery is offering up to 24 hours (8 sessions) free childcare to those children of working parents that meet the scheme’s criteria. To check your eligibility visit the HM Government Childcare Choices website: https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/?utm_source=Foundation+Years&utm_campaign=1a0693eb0e- EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_03_22&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e05004a334-1a0693eb0e-296121581

School readiness

To help prepare the children for school, the children due to start school in September 2022 will be given a leaflet on ‘Preparing your child for school’ and a ‘Getting ready for school checklist’.
