Summer Term

Tuesday 21st April – Friday 17th July 2020 Bank Holiday Friday 8th May 2020 Half Term 25th May - 29th May 2020

Last day of the Spring term

The children will finish at 12.15pm on Friday 3rd April, the last day of the Spring term, which means there will be no lunch club or afternoon session on this day.

Spring Term Topics

For the second half of the Spring Term the children will be hearing and reading stories, such as Dear Zoo, The Gruffalo, The Smartest Giant in Town, Handa’s Surprise and We’re going on a Bear Hunt. Also, the children will prepare to celebrate Mothering Sunday, Easter and World Book Day on Thursday 5th March 2020.

World Book Day

The children are encouraged to celebrate World Book day on Thursday 5th March, by wearing a costume to represent a character from their favourite book, on that day.

Book Bags

All children are encouraged to join the Bear Hugs Nursery Library scheme. If you have not done so already, you give a £5 deposit to Fiona or your child’s key person for the Bear Hugs Nursery book bag. The deposit can be repaid when your child’s book and book bag are returned when they leave the nursery. Your child will be invited to select a book of their choice from our Bear Hugs’ library to bring home and share with their family. We hope you will enjoy reading and looking at the books with your child.

Spare Clothing

Please ensure your child has spare clothing in their bag. On occasions when children do not bring in spare clothing, the nursery will provide some from their limited supplies. If your child comes home in the nursery’s spare clothing, please wash and return the clothing asap. The nursery is always gratefully of any contributions of clothing that your child no longer requires.

Head lice

Young children can be susceptible to getting head lice. You cannot prevent head lice, but you can help stop them spreading by checking regularly with a detection comb (Nitty Gritty is a particularly effective comb). If you find head lice on your child’s hair, check other family members and treat everyone affected immediately. Wet combing method - wash hair with ordinary shampoo, apply lots of conditioner, comb whole head of hair from the roots to the ends. This usually take 10 minutes to comb short hair and 20 to 30 minutes for long, frizzy or curly hair. Wet comb on days 1, 5, 9, 13 and 17 to catch newly hatched head lice. Medicated lotions and sprays - If your child still has head lice after 17 days use pharmacist’s recommended treatment. Some treatments need to be repeated after a week to kill any newly hatched lice.

Places for siblings

If your child has a younger sibling that is requiring a space at Bear Hugs Nursery, please speak to Fiona so they can be put onto the waiting list.

30 Hours Free Entitlement

Your child, from the term after they turn 3 years, could be eligible for 30 hours free childcare. Bear Hugs Nursery is offering up to 24 hours (8 sessions) free childcare to those children of working parents that meet the scheme’s criteria. To check your eligibility visit the HM Government Childcare Choices website: https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/?utm_source=Foundation+Years&utm_campaign=1a0693eb0e- EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_03_22&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e05004a334-1a0693eb0e-296121581 If your child already receives the 30 hours free funding or you are eligible to start using the additional hours in April 2020, you will need to register by 31st March 2020 to start/continue to use the hours in April 2020.
